About Lan-Hsin
As an interdisciplinary textile artist born in Taiwan, Lan-Hsin Tu received her BA in Textile and Fashion Design in Taiwan, and an MFA in Media, Art, Design, and Technology from Frank Mohr Institute, The Netherlands. She is interested in the genre of technology, fashion, art, and design and explores the relationship between the materiality of textiles and digital materials. Lan-Hsin seeks breakthroughs in technological innovation and fashion statements that bring a new conversation between fabrics, emerging technology, and wearable objects.
For Lan-Hsin, teaching is a two-way interaction: teaching and being taught, learning and being learned; As a teacher, she's also a student. She learns from her students and they stimulate creativity in each other. Teaching is a process of exploring, and experimenting. Lan-Hsin encourages her students to boldly use their imagination, curiosity, and enthusiasm to create. Most importantly, enjoying process is the central part of this journey. She's happy that her art practice can become a field/profession where Lan-Hsin can share her knowledge with other people.
Favourites/inspiration
I am strongly inspired by visual artists Jay DeFeo’, Rebecca Horn and the performances and social implications by Erwin Wurm, Mona Hatoum, and Yvonne Dröge Wendel. Also, I am fascinated by fashion designers: Iris van Herpen and Yohji Yamamoto.
I see myself as an explorer, a curious person who loves to observe my surroundings. I would like to deliver this enthusiasm while I am teaching.
