Painting: From light to paint
In this course, you will learn to paint by observing light. The lessons are taught in English.
Painting: From light to paint
Light and painting are intrinsically connected, as are painting and looking. In this course, you will learn to paint by observing light: the kind of light on a dull day or that of a bright sunny afternoon, the warm glow of a lamp or the artificial intensity of a night shop. We will look at how different objects deal with light, some more luminescent, reflective or transparent than others.
We start with sketching with pencil, pen or charcoal, moving on to black and white paintings, and then to coloured paintings in acrylic or oil paint. For the first lessons, everyone paints the same subjects. Further on, participants choose their own subjects, moving towards their fascinations and inclinations, and hopefully discovering their own approach to painting light.
Throughout the course we will look at how different painters across time and place have looked at light in their own ways.
