Bağlama, also known as the saz, is one of the most popular Turkish string instruments. However, it is not only popular in Turkey; the bağlama is also widely played in regions such as the Balkans and the Middle East. The instrument is recognizable by its long neck, large bowl-shaped resonator, and sound hole. While it resembles a guitar, it produces a very different sound. Depending on the technique used, the saz can be played with a thin, elongated plectrum or with the fingers.
At VRIJDAG, you can take bağlama lessons either individually or in groups. You'll be taught by an experienced instructor who regularly performs with their saz at concerts and performances. You will learn the finer points of playing the bağlama from real performing musicians! There are bağlama lessons available for all ages and skill levels. Whether you choose individual lessons or prefer playing in a group, there’s always a course for you.
At VRIJDAG, there are numerous bands, ensembles, choirs, and orchestras you can join with your bağlama. Making music together is not only fun but also educational. You'll be challenged to listen carefully to each other and dare to solo. Don’t own a bağlama? You can rent one from us. Curious if it's something for you? The first lesson is non-binding. You can cancel free of charge within three days of your first lesson. This does not apply to short courses (≤8 lessons).
