The cornet looks much like a trumpet, but is smaller, lighter to play and sounds less shrill. When jazz became popular around 1900, this instrument gained an important place in ensembles. As a result, it became a real show instrument. But in the 20th century, the cornet gradually had to make way for the valve trumpet. Nowadays, the cornet has an important role in the English-style brass band. This form of orchestra has no fewer than 10 cornets (including 9 in B-flat and 1 in E-flat) out of a total strength of 25 brass players.
At VRIJDAG you can take cornet lessons on your own or in a group. You will be taught by an experienced teacher who regularly plays his or her cornet in performances and concerts. You will therefore learn the intricacies of cornet playing from real performing musicians! There are cornet lessons for all ages and levels. And whether you choose individual cornet lessons or want to play in an orchestra, there is always a course for you.
VRIJDAG has many bands, ensembles, choirs and orchestras you can join with your cornet. Making music together with others is not only very sociable, but also educational. You are challenged to listen to each other and to dare to play solo. Don't have your own cornet? Then you can hire one from us. Wondering if it is something for you? The first lesson is without obligation. You can cancel free of charge within three days of your first lesson. This does not apply to short courses (≤8 lessons).
