Playing djembe in Groningen
For all ages and levels
The djembe is a vase drum from Africa and is often played in ensemble to accompany traditional dances. The djembe can produce all kinds of timbres by using both hands, playing with the fingers or flat hands. Playing traditional rhythms is literally all about playing together, as those who drum out of time make it sound wrong. Moreover, the rhythms are often woven around each other; where one party rests, the other takes over with a new rhythm. So the djembe is a very versatile and interactive instrument.
At VRIJDAG you can experience what it's like to play djembe together during the course Discover musical Africa. You will be taught by an experienced teacher who regularly plays his or her djembe at performances and concerts. You will learn the intricacies of playing the djembe from real performing musicians! This course is for all ages and all levels.
Do you have your own djembe? Then you can also participate in all kinds of bands, ensembles and orchestras within VRIJDAG! Making music together with others is not only fun, but also educational. You are challenged to listen to each other and to dare to play solo. Don't have a djembe yourself? Then you can hire one from us. Wondering if it is something for you? The first lesson is without obligation. You can cancel free of charge within three days of your first lesson. This does not apply to short courses (≤8 lessons).
