There is no instrument as versatile as the double bass: classical, jazz, blues, pop, klezmer, world music, you name it! It is the largest string instrument with the lowest notes and forms the harmonic foundation in many ensembles. With the advent of big bands in the 1930s, the double bass became an important part of jazz orchestras. It is primarily an accompanying instrument. So you won't often find it as a solo instrument, but in the accompaniment function, on the other hand, the double bass is very important!
At VRIJDAG you can take double bass lessons on your own or in a group. You will be taught by an experienced teacher who regularly plays his or her double bass in performances and concerts. So you learn the intricacies of double bass playing from real performing musicians! There are double bass lessons for all ages and levels. And whether you choose individual double bass lessons or want to play in a jazz combo; there is always a course for you.
VRIJDAG has many bands, ensembles, choirs and orchestras you can join with your double bass. Making music together with others is not only very sociable, but also educational. You are challenged to listen to each other and to dare to play solo. Don't own a double bass? Then you can hire one from us. Wondering if it is something for you? The first lesson is without obligation. You can cancel free of charge within three days of your first lesson. This does not apply to short courses (≤8 lessons).
