Printmaking and painting
Unlock your artistic potential in this course where painting and printmaking converge.
Printmaking and painting
Throughout this course, you will learn painting skills such as the use of color, perspective, atmosphere, and painterly printmaking techniques, as well as how to work with light and dark and make use of texture. You will learn to create a monotype, work with carborundum plate making, and explore linotype. We will begin by exploring basic skills, such as translating what you see into an image with quick sketches, acrylic paint, collage, and monotype.
Printmaking will serve as a means to loosen up and translate ideas into plates and back again. It will also help in working with light and dark and provide some distance in time and thought from your image. Printmaking, like painting, can be very fast and direct. We will focus on organizing the image, the impact of materials, movement, and how to go beyond the image. Gesture will be key in these lessons.
Painting and printmaking are closely intertwined across genres and time periods. Think of artists like Pablo Picasso, Rembrandt, and Pierre Soulages. We will use artists as learning tools.
No previous knowledge is required in either painting or printmaking, just an open mind and a willingness to learn and experiment.
